Location of Study Tour: Bordeaux and Southwest France (South West Europe). Nestled on the Atlantic coast, nicknamed “The Pearl of Aquitaine,” and a UNESCO heritage city, Bordeaux hosts the University of Bordeaux, a UC strategic partner university. It has thrived on its world-known wine production that dates back to Roman times and still today represents a large share of its economy. Its contributions to political philosophy include Montesquieu’s influential The Spirits of Laws. Due to its location, resources, and its century-old commercial ties with Britain, the Low Countries, and the Americas, the region is an open cultural crossroads. Today Bordeaux and its region is the hub of innovative urban planning, dynamic venture companies, and promising research in botany, medicine, aeronautics, and ocean and marine data management.
